I have been following most of the people going to SXSW Interactive. Do you use Twitter, follow me and I will follow you for tweetups and parties. http://twitter.com/alexdesigns
After last year, where Twitter damm near scheduled everything, I think it will be interesting to see if it still has the same impact - the shrot answer, BTW i yes, personally I'll be twittering
When I attended SXSW 2006 everyone texted each other. Last year, Twitter took off. With so many events going on concurrently, people want to know the latest. So, yes, I'll be twittering. I may have to change my text plan first though!
Will twitter for sure, but somewhere I want that balance of "useful to the people in Austin" vs. annoying and tearjerking for the people elsewhere who really don't need to know that I lost my camera, boyfriend, and someone else's shwag thong on the way home and has anyone found them, etc.?
as i posted on another thread, yes i will twitter, but i will probably dodgeball a whole lot more since i can set dball to austin and just have it send to my austin pals. i found dodgeball far more useful last year in terms of locating people and letting them know where i was. twitter seemed sort of goofy for logistical purposes since most of my twitter pals were not in austin (as melissa notes above).

Agreed re: Dodgeball; seemed to work pretty well, though not sure how many people are still using it, esp. besides the SF crew. Or maybe we could put some pressure on the Twitter guys to see if there was a way to do city-specific tweets. I doubt all 600+ of my followers want to hear that I'm drunk and starving at 2am and looking to go to the after party. Another option: protect your Tweets that week so they'll only go to people you've friended.
re dodgeball; I'm coming from Vancouver and we have never had dodgeball. I've heard a little about it, but I don't know if I would be able to access it on my phone while in Austin.
@Aubs - I will be using twitter, it will be my first time attending and I want to network as much as possible as well as socialise and build links for beyond SXSW as well as see people from the twitterverse IRL for the first time. As one of your followers, I don't mind hearing you are hungry at 2am as I will still be up looking for food tips myself within walking distance. My tweets are already protected, they only go to the people that follow me regardless of whether I am following them, just because I like the privacy.
What I will probably do is send out a message to everyone that follow me asking them to turn off notifications for me. I use adium (IM client for mac) and restrict the amount of people I read messages from. The other option is for them to not follow me for the week if they like and then I can re-add them after a week. In reality, I think the majority of people that follow us while we are at SXSW will hopefully be motivated to attend next year. :)
Phillip, dodgeball uses SMS messages, just like twitter, so I think that if you can use twitter on your phone, you should also be able to use dodgeball in Austin. However, in order for it to be useful to you, it would be necessary for you to be linked t your dodgeball pals in Austin. Otherwise, nobody would get your updates (and vice-versa).
