So for any of you following me on twitter, you'll know that I just got over the worst bout of tonsillitis EVAR. Srsly it was horrific, ball-my-eyes-out painful. :(
The only good news is that on Friday I got antibiotics & painkillers (aww yaa, vicodin) & slept the weekend away. And now, finally, what feels like YEARS later (but it's just been 5 days), I'm finally feeling like a normal functioning human in society.
Anyway, best to get all the s… Continue
I went through 50% of the SXSW Showcasing Artists Torrents and whittled them down to about 75. There are some gems on here spanning rock+jazz+funk.

I'll be posting the other 50% of the 1035-or so tracks later in the week, similarly whittled down. Keep an eye on http://www.pennydistribution.wordpress.com

This will be my first SXSW. I am nowhere near the state of Texas and already I am overwhelmed. With any luck, I will see some good bands, eat some good food, and leave with my braincells mostly intact. If anyone has any advice on how to accomplish these things, let me know. Oh, and meanwhile, I can be read at http://www.exclaim.ca/musicschool/needtoknow.aspx?csid1=130 Continue

SXSW is of course my *favorite* week of the year. Getting to reunite with literally HUNDREDS of friends from around the globe, drink a cold Shiner Bock (or 4), and talk internets. Seriously so awesome!!
This year I'm super sad to report I'll be coming back earlier than usual (flying out Thursday). In many years I haven't missed the fabulousness that is SXSW Music... (cries), but that's how it is. I'm glad I'll have even a 24 hour taste of it! Can you tell I'm good at looking at the bright side?… Continue

Making the Most of Music Conferences
The Musician’s Guide to Navigating SXSW
Six Steps to Maximize Your Conference Experience, Make More Music-Business Contacts, and Advance Your Music Career
It happens every year in January: Artists are beginning to call and complain to me that South by Southwest (SXSW) didn’t select them for a showcase this year. But having a showcase is not the only reason to attend a music conference and I invite you to think differently about this.
Over my 13 year… Continue

funny how you can be at a long term event or festival for just a day and a half and feel like you already have it all figured out and have a routine.
first thing to figure out:
relax, don't fret. You are in the right place at the right time. Remember your Zen words of before.
Oh, and if the rest of your group are walking slow and thinking slower, let them go at their own pace and you can find your own way. they will be fine without you.
where to go for a great musical line-u… Continue

they said I'd be back at the hotel by 2am and they were right. my feet are tired. I'm tired.
I like The Islands. I ended up seeing them twice tonight. the first time at Lena's recommendation. two different shows. One with terrific sound (at the Cedar Courtyard something) and the other with abysmal sound (at Emo's) I almost left because of the sound but moving further back from the stage helped well… Continue

the Lou Lou & Guitarfish ~ party of 9 arrived safely to Austin airport and picked up our big ass rental van...now we're all freshening up. The band kids have already claimed one room here at the Airport Hawthorne Suites as their own against all pre-arranged plans...but we'll see how it shakes out when we all arrive back here at 2am. For the moment I have ended up with a double bedded (of double beds) suite all to myself with fridge, microwave, sitting room and loads of towels...so I'm not co… Continue

Hey all,
I've been working with this amazing indie-rock/pop band from New Orleans called Rotary Downs. They will be at SXSW this weekend. Would anyone like to schedule an interview? The band will be arriving this Friday at 3pm and will be there until Sunday. Their showcase is at 8:15pm at Smokin' Music. Please let me know via ning or by email if you'd like to set up a time to interview these amazing guys.

Walking around today, from Kick! to the Flickr Meetup and the 16 Bit party. I totally got spotted by many folks as the guy who danced to Accordion style, Britney Spears during the How to Rawk Panel.
Friday was barely day one but I already feel like Saturday is day three. I had a very full day, shooting portraits, drinking on panel and partying it up at Breaking Bread with Brad before heading to the gay bar.
So here is the skinny for tomorrow.
