From what I hear from the true veterans, if ever there was a time to rock a new style, it's in front of the ungodly swarm of photographers descending on Austin in a month. Who doesn't carry a camera? It's like the Flickr red carpet effect of every other conference (or a night out in San Francisco with the wrong crowd), but getting played out many times over, and with more open bars and less sleep and so more chances to beg for photos to be made private later.
