SXSW '09 Insider's Guide

I'm sure that it must be hard to believe but I am a SXSW Virgin. Here are my main questions for now:
- How do I keep track of all of the parties?
- Do you need invites?
- Where should I eat?
- What are good cafes to chillout in?
- Do I need to rent a car?

Where to eat for SXSW 2008? KENICHI! Kenichi will be offering bar food at their location on 5th and Colorado. The bar will be opening at 4pm daily all week long. This is a limited menu just for the bar, that includes items like yaki udon, thai fried chk wings, vietnamese chicken curry, tuna tacos and japanese hot dogs. This food is reduced in price and will cater to the sxsw crowd. All of the items will be from $8-$15. Kenichi will also have drink specials, and a regular happy hour menu. Come on by and see us!!!

No need for a car.

No time to chill.

What gets me through SXSW is a Room With a Kitchen, and trips to the health food store. And as little snacking on fried party treats as possible.

The best parties for me are the ones you stumble across. Sure, you need invites or finagling for certain parties, but even if you don't nail down one, there are a bunch of other parties going on at the same time.

And the #1 most important tip for nailing SXSW, make sure that your hotel is within a block of the convention center.

Can't wait to see a bunch of you there!

Meh. Everyone goes to everything. It's just a moveable feast. And twitter.

I hope we can sneak in some BBQ & beers at some point. :)

That's the biggest lesson, there's always something amazing going on. Put yourself first. You'll be tempted to undereat and overdrink. which is a losing strategy over a week.

And I imagine under sleep. :) Naps and showers are key.

The little taco trucks on Red River (I think) are great for a quick bite. Surprisingly good and better yet, convenient. With so much going on it's sometimes hard to remember to eat. The idea of getting a room with a kitchenette is a great one - if you can find that.

I second the taco truck (although I prefer the fajitas)!
